Why photo booths run on Windows
A photo booth is a camera, a printer and a screen driven by a computer. On Windows, all three plug in over USB and run on the manufacturers’ drivers: the Canon EDSDK kit for EOS cameras, the standard USB connection for Nikon, the DNP and Citizen drivers for dye-sub printers. On iPad, there is no native DSLR; on a Mac, few dye-sub printers are supported and the choice of software is narrow.
- Choice of hardware: laptop, mini PC or all-in-one, new or refurbished.
- Printer drivers: every event photo printer has a Windows driver.
- The DSLR: Canon and Nikon provide the tools to control it on Windows.
- Price: a Windows mini PC often costs less than a recent iPad.
Still torn between an iPad booth and a PC booth? That choice comes before the choice of software. iPad, iPhone or Windows PC photo booth: which to choose?

These figures are guidelines for a booth with a DSLR and a printer. No graphics card is needed: green screen keying runs on an ordinary PC, and AI portraits are processed on our servers. What Froozbooth controls on Windows
- Canon EOS DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, controlled natively through EDSDK: live view, focus during the countdown, copy to the SD card.
- Nikon DSLRs and Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, controlled natively, with no Nikon software to install.
- Any webcam recognized by Windows. Other camera brands go through the manufacturer’s webcam utility or an HDMI capture card.
- Any printer installed on Windows: DNP DS620, DS-RX1, Citizen and others, as 4x6 prints or 2x6 strips.
- A touchscreen, or a screen with an arcade button, a USB pedal or a presentation remote, with no setup.
- A second screen for the event slideshow.
A separate service, installed with the booth, drives the camera and printer away from the guest screen: if the camera is unplugged, the screen does not freeze, and the booth picks it up again as soon as it is back. Photo booth software for Canon and Nikon DSLRs

What about Mac?
Froozbooth does not install on macOS, but the web booth opens in a Mac browser: the same templates and settings, the device camera or a USB webcam, printing through the browser dialog or AirPrint. DSLRs, direct printing and local Wi-Fi sharing remain on Windows. For a Mac booth with a DSLR, Sparkbooth remains the most common software. Sparkbooth alternative
The web booth needs no installation: it opens in the browser, connects to the account in one click and picks up the event templates. It is the simplest way to run Froozbooth on a Mac, a Chromebook or an iPad. The web booth: a photo booth in your browser
Installing Froozbooth on a Windows PC
- Download the Windows installer and run it: the booth and the hardware service install together.
- On first launch, sign in with your dashboard email and password: the booth appears in your machines on its own.
- Plug in the camera and printer, then run the startup checks: shutter, test print, network.
- Prepare the event in the browser, from the office: it reaches the booth in one sync.
The booth checks for a new version at startup and then every six hours, and nothing installs without you: you pick the moment, between two events. Updates are included in every plan. All Froozbooth features
Frequently asked questions
What is the best photo booth software for Windows?
For a rental company with a Canon or Nikon DSLR and a dye-sub printer, Froozbooth combines online prep, a gallery hosted in Paris and two PCs from €139 a year or €299 lifetime. dslrBooth is the usual pick if you control a Sony natively, Sparkbooth if you also want to run on a Mac, RightBooth for video messages and quizzes.
Does Froozbooth work on Windows 11?
Yes, on 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. There is no 32-bit version. Check your PC, camera and printer during the 15-day free trial.
What computer should I buy for a photo booth?
A mini PC or laptop running Windows 11, with at least 8 GB of memory, 16 GB recommended, an SSD and enough USB ports for the camera, the printer and an optional button. A refurbished model works very well. No need for a graphics card: Froozbooth does not need one.
Can I run photo booth software on a laptop?
Yes. A Windows laptop makes a very good booth: its own screen is for the operator, and a touchscreen facing guests runs the booth. Keep it on mains power and turn off sleep during the event.
Is Froozbooth available for Mac?
Not the Windows application: its installer will not open on macOS. But the web booth opens in the Mac browser, with the device camera or a USB webcam; DSLRs and direct printing require the Windows booth. For a Mac booth with a DSLR, Sparkbooth remains the most common software.
Can I use a webcam instead of a DSLR?
Yes. Any webcam recognized by Windows works in Froozbooth, which is enough to get started or for a selfie booth. A Canon or Nikon DSLR controlled natively gives better photos in low light, which matters at evening events.
Is there free photo booth software for Windows?
A little, and nearly all free photo booth software is open source for the Raspberry Pi. On Windows, most paid software can be tried for free: Froozbooth for 15 days, with no credit card, with a watermark on photos until you pick a plan.
How many PCs can I run on one Froozbooth license?
Two PCs paired at the same time, each with its own camera and printer: the booth and its backup, or two rooms on the same night. Beyond that, Pro goes up to 10 machines.
